WED or SAT: In the morning, departure from Guatemala City to Antigua, our former colonial capital, where you will visit several churches, colonial buildings, monasteries, convents, and other architectural gems from the colonial era. Afterwards, continue to Chichicastenango.
THU or SUN: Visit the colorful open-air market and the Church of Santo Tomás. Here, you will be able to witness ceremonial rituals carried out on the steps of the church, which is more than 400 years old (shorts and swimsuits are not permitted inside the church). Hundreds of indigenous people arrive from surrounding villages to sell and trade their products, setting up in small spaces throughout the market.
After lunch, begin the return journey to Guatemala City, with a brief stop at Lake Atitlán, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Atitlán is an ideal place to experience Guatemalan folklore firsthand. Twelve indigenous towns surround the lake, whose inhabitants are descendants of the Quiché, Cakchiquel, and Tz’utujil peoples. Return to Guatemala City.
