BH5 – Full Day Guatemala City Tour

You will be picked up at your hotel for a sightseeing tour of Guatemala City.  Some of the principal sites you will visit this morning include the National Palace, the Cathedral, La Merced and Santo Domingo Church and the Civic Center Complex. You will also visit residential areas, this giving you an overall view of our rapidly growing and modern city (NO shorts or bathing suites are permitted). Then, continue your tour visiting the Popol Vuh Museum, where you can see a valuable collection of pre-Hispanic art (sculpture in stone, polychrome ceramic, incensories, and burial chambers). In addition, there is a Colonial Art section and a Folklore section that exhibits indigenous clothing and traditional dance masks.  Continue to Ixchel Museum of Mayan Costumes. Opened in 1973 as a non-profit private organization, its name was inspired in Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of fertility and of weaving in the prehispanic era.  The museum has a vast collection of textiles dating back to the end of the last century to our days, which comes from approximately 120 communities, most of them in the highlands.
