In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel for a full-day tour of Guatemala City. You will visit the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, La Merced Church, Santo Domingo Church, and the Civic Center Complex. You will also visit residential areas to gain an understanding of the country’s rapid growth (shorts and swimsuits are not permitted).
The tour continues to the Popol Vuh Museum, where you can admire an outstanding collection of pre-Hispanic art, including stone sculpture, polychrome ceramics, incense burners, and funerary chambers. The museum also features a colonial art section and a folklore section showcasing traditional indigenous costumes and dance masks.
Next, you will visit the Ixchel Museum of Indigenous Textiles. Founded in 1973, its name was inspired by the Mayan goddess of fertility and weaving during the pre-Hispanic era. The museum houses an important textile collection with pieces dating from the late 19th century to the present day, representing approximately 120 communities, mostly from the Guatemalan Highlands.
Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
