This morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the archaeological site of Iximché, which dates back to the 15th century. This was the location where the first Spanish capital of Guatemala was established.
The site’s architecture includes several pyramidal temples, palaces, and two Mesoamerican ball courts. During archaeological excavations, remnants of painted murals were discovered on some structures, along with extensive evidence of ritual sacrifices. The ruins of Iximché were declared a National Monument of Guatemala in the 1960s.
The site also features a small museum displaying artifacts found during excavations, including sculptures and ceramics.
